EFT Tapping for Kids’ Back to School Anxiety Script

This is the time of year when we begin to think about our children heading back to school, along with all the first day (and more) concerns that come along with it. So, rather than reacting to what happens, I want to provide you with a technique to proactively engage the concerns, move the children from a place of fear, anxiety and apprehension to a place of confidence, self-assuredness and happy.
Some common worries include:
  • What if I get the wrong bus?
  • Are my clothes OK?
  • Will any of my friends be in my class?
  • Will I fit in?
  • Will I look stupid?
  • Whom will I sit with in the cafeteria?
  • Who will be my new teacher?
  • What if my new teacher is mean?
This round is acknowledging all the child’s concerns, listing them out loud while tapping on the points. You may ask why we dwell on the issues by saying them out loud but your releasing them as they are there whether we like it or not.
The second round of tapping is discussing how the child could look and feel about these worries differently. (Putting these worries into perspective – these worries are only temporary, anxiety is not dangerous, it just doesn’t feel good).
The third and final round of tapping is directing the child to the positive aspects of returning to school.   Interacting with old friends and having new school clothes or new back pack.
So, we always start with the ‘Set Up’ phrase to eliminate or reduce down any resistance to change we may feel in our body. For this issue it would go like this:
“Even though I have all these worries about going back to school
I love and accept all my feelings anyway”
“Even though I am so worried about going back to school
I am still an awesome kid!”
“Even though I worry about a lot of things about going back to school
I love and accept all of me just the way I am”
The following EFT script will get you started on helping your child with back to school anxiety. This script should be suitable for any age child but this is just a guide.
Round 1
Eyebrow:                  What if I get the wrong bus?
Side of Eye:              Are my clothes OK?
Under Eye:               Will any of my friends be in my class?
Under Nose:             Will I fit in?
Middle of Chin:       Will I look stupid?
Collarbone:             Whom will I sit with in the cafeteria?
Under Arm:             Who will be my new teacher?
Top of Head:            What if my new teacher is mean?
Eyebrow:                  I’m so fearful of all these things
Side of Eye:              I’m not ready to go back to school
Under Eye:               Too many things that don’t feel right
Under Nose:             I’m so scared of all the things that could go wrong
Middle of Chin:       I don’t want to look stupid or made fun of
Collarbone:             I’m afraid I won’t know anything
Under Arm:             I have butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it
Top of Head:            The first day back to school is so scary

Round 2
Eyebrow:                  What if I could look at this differently?
Side of Eye:              I’ll get to catch up with all my friends
Under Eye:               All these feelings that something bad will happen
Under Nose:             But something bad is already happening
Middle of Chin:       By allowing all this fear to take over me
Collarbone:             It’s causing these butterflies in my stomach
Under Arm:             I am nervous about it going to sleep at night
Top of Head:            I’m ready to release some of this fear to feel better
Eyebrow:                  I am ready to look at these worries differently
Side of Eye:              All these fears are just in my mind
Under Eye:               I have always had a great imagination
Under Nose:             And now I’m letting it imagine the worst
Middle of Chin:       What if I could imagine the best first day?
Collarbone:             I choose to let go all these worries
Under Arm:             I know I am ready for the next school year
Top of Head:            Because I am an awesome kid!

Round 3
Eyebrow:                  I choose to feel relaxed about my first day
Side of Eye:              I am an awesome kid and I’m fun to be with
Under Eye:               I am ok and will be ok on my first day
Under Nose:             I understand how hard this is on me
Middle of Chin:       But I’m stronger than I think I am
Collarbone:             All these worries are all just in my mind
Under Arm:             I am ready to release all these worries now
Top of Head:            Because I am an awesome kid!
